Thanksgiving Mass With a Difference
On Tuesday 28th March the whole school community celebrated Thanksgiving Mass with a difference – this was the last day all the senior school students were in school together before our Senior 5s leave, and it also coincided with Sr Riches Grech’s 80th birthday. Sr Riches has been instrumental in leading our school expansion project, and after (nearly) 60 years of service to the school deserved a special celebration of thanks. Educators and students came together to make this possible.
Mass was celebrated by Fr Matthew Pulis, School Chaplain, at Stella Maris Parish Church, and we were joined by Mrs Josephine Borg, Sr Riches’ twin sister, and her family. The school choir animated mass beautifully and afterwards, Sr Riches thanked all present and shared some reflections on her life journey and her personal motto, based on St Emilie De Vialar’s words – ‘God sustains me always’.
After mass we moved down to the school auditorium for a special assembly surprise. The Wellbeing Team had decked out the stage with birthday balloons and cake, and a visibly moved Sr Riches was greeted by students and staff singing happy birthday. Class prefects presented Sr Riches with hand-made birthday cards and before long, white chocolate birthday cake was being enjoyed by all!
Thank you to all the team for making this possible, and best wishes to Sr Riches … ad multos annos!
