Gozo Art Outing
On Friday 20th May, the Senior 3 and Senior 4 Art option students were taken to Gozo for the afternoon. There, they started by having a picnic and watercolour session on the beach at Hondoq Ir-Rummien. A number of interesting paintings resulted from this painting session en plein air!
Following this, a visit to the exhibition Identity of an Island, Gozo: between past and present, at Teatru Astra ensued. Here, the students had the opportunity to view a number of works by a large array of local artists which included works by Francesca Balzan, Trevor Borg, Celia Borg Cardona, Sina Farrugia Micallef, Paul Scerri and Robert Zahra, amongst many others.
The exhibition proposed itself as a platform for contemporary artistic dialogue which saw visual artists and creative practitioners engaging with the theme of Gozo today, especially mindful of the issues and phenomena effecting Gozo’s contemporary identity, in a fresh and innovative manner.

It was an enjoyable afternoon, where the students were able to have an immersion into the arts, both in a practical way, and as an observer. The students were able to see how art isn’t simply about pretty paintings and drawings, but that a message can be conveyed using a wide variety of different materials, techniques and methods.
