Dyslexia Awareness
The month of October every year and all over the world is dedicated to creating awareness of dyslexia. This year, we worked to create awareness of dyslexia and provide further understanding about this learning profile through creating information on notice boards spread around our school corridors and downstairs in the foyer. Information included awareness about famous people with a profile of dyslexia, and a list of handy hints on how students with dyslexia may be supported by peers, teachers, families, and professionals.
Our dyslexia-friendly approaches and practices at school include collaboration with Dyslexic Teens Dialogue, a youth group which advocates for young people with dyslexia. Through this collaboration we developed the Year in Pixels leaflet for emotional wellbeing, and this year we launched a website containing useful information for students at secondary school. The launch was held on the 15th October during morning assembly by 4 of our students in Seniors 4 and 5 who are also participating in an Erasmus+ youth initiative project coordinated by the youth group. Christa Borg Parnis, Keira Chetcuti, Lea Sammut and Maegan Friggieri launched the website to the whole school through an online presentation, in which they gave a brief tour of the site and highlighted their own contributions and favourite pages. The website may be found on www.mylearningtolearn.com. Additionally, the website also contains other contributions by the participants of the youth project, including Italian students from Dis…correre, partners in the project, such as information about self-care, resources for circle time, critical thinking methods and tools, study methods, and tools such as mind maps and much more.
