Book Week 2022
It was a very busy time at our school these past two weeks as Book Week was celebrated in order to commemorate World Book Day. Due to the many activities organised, students enjoyed an additional week of fun as our Book Week was spread over two weeks instead of one.
The first day of Term 3 started off with an assembly about World Book Day in which students were given the programme planned for these two weeks. On their way to class, they could admire the colourful and informative noticeboards lovingly set up by the Assistant Heads for the occasion.
Various competitions were organised for our students. The lower forms participated in the Design a Book Cover competition organised by the National Literacy Agency. The Senior 1s also tried their luck in the Bookmark competition, and the Senior 2s in the Poster competition. It was lovely to see all their work displayed in the school foyer. Our school library has never been busier as many students paid a visit to hunt for clues in order to participate in the Library Scavenger Hunt. The most popular competition by far was the ‘We read too: Guess who!’ where students had to match the educators to their piles of books. 5 lucky winners were awarded a book prize for guessing them all.
Apart from the competitions, students could also participate in various break-time activities. The reading aloud sessions were a favourite with the lower forms who enjoyed listening to a story read out to them during their break. Other students opted to attend the Young Writers’ Club where they shared their writings with their friends.
Our school also participated in the DEAR campaign where lessons stopped for a while and everybody dropped everything and read instead. Quite a few students decided this was the time to read one of the books they had bought from our book fair held just before the Easter holidays.
All students love watching films and so it’s cinema time in the library throughout all of the third term. The lower forms will be watching ‘The Boy in the Dress’ by David Walliams during their library sessions.
Our book week activities came to an end last Friday with the much anticipated Book Character dress-up day. It was a fun-filled morning where laughter, colourful and creative costumes and great teamwork ensued. Some educators also joined in the fun by dressing up, to the delight of the students. It was certainly a day to remember!
In conclusion, as Anna Quindlen once said, ‘Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.’
