Ekoskola Updates
During the past scholastic year and despite the many obstacles which were experienced, the EkoSkola Committee managed to keep meeting and organizing activities even though a different way of grouping had to be used due to the Covid-19 mitigation measures.
The Committee used a format which kept the different form bubbles of students separate from each other, so each form had its own group of EkoSkola Representatives. Each group in turn worked with teacher volunteers to ensure that messages to support sustainability issues were shared with the school community and new initiatives were also created. The Form 1 students were coordinated by Ms. Erika; the Form 2 students teamed up with Ms. Sarah and Ms. Mary Rose; the Form 3 students worked along with Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Leanne, Form 4 students grouped up with Ms. Jessica and Ms. Annetta; while Mr. Julian and Ms. Illona organized activities with students from Form 5. Here are some photos of last year’s form groups.
Even though time and space were limited, the various groups of EkoSkola students and teachers managed to issue a monthly leaflet, participate in the YRE competition, organize a corner in the school garden to propagate seedlings and cuttings, virtually e-meet Mr. James Gabarretta from Nature Trust on supporting the project at Il-Magħluq in Marsascala and participate in the school’s Community Day. A campaign against the use of disposable masks was also held in school. This was supported through posters which were displayed around school which included an artwork by Form 3 student, Chloe Merlevede and poster design by Marija Cuschieri, also from Form 3. Another success was experienced by EkoSkola student members Michaela Agius, Edrienne Galea, Ema Gatt and Katya Vassallo who received a commendation for the work they submitted for the YRE Competition!
There are already various ideas for projects and campaigns for this scholastic going around the various groups and looking forward to continuing promoting the environment and a sustainable lifestyle as these remain top priority for us all year round.
