#litterless Assembly
During the morning assembly of 12th December, two members from the EkoSkola Outreach Committee, Amy Cassar and Michaela Agius, presented to the students in the Senior School some points regarding plastic packaging materials.
Their research showed that packing-related materials make up more than 30% of landfill waste—or around 75 million tons each year, of that, nearly two-thirds is food packaging. Consumer goods generate around 207 million tons of packaging waste annually. They suggested how choices can be made to reduce and reuse packaging materials in our daily lives and in particular in anticipation of the Christmas season.
Some hints given by Amy and Michaela include buying locally sourced food, wrapping presents in used wrapping paper or newspaper, buying presents that have less packaging material, sending messages instead of Christmas cards and also putting up an eco-friendly Christmas Tree in our homes!
