On the 20th November 2018, the pastoral team in our school worked on offering a well-being seminar where we put forward the idea that being comfortable, healthy or happy is a choice that we make in our lives. Unfortunately, due to the challenges and distractions in today’s world this choice is blurred in our minds.
The aim was to empower the students to believe that they are in control of their lives. The police representative, Mr.Clive Mangion, explained the different types of drugs and the consequences of people adopting this lifestyle. He talked to students about creating healthy networks, encouraged them to take informed decisions and to boost their confidence.
The second part of the seminar focused on human dignity and sexuality. It started off with an interactive presentation on the intrinsic value and dignity of each man and woman thus passing on the message that each girl is valuable and should respect herself and demand that others respect her. The facilitators of this workshop – representatives from ‘Life Network’, presented various snapshots of different realities in relationships and the girls had to assess each situation and state whether it is a healthy relationship or not. Lastly, the subject of sex before marriage was taken up and the girls were given various reasons why it is worth waiting for sex until marriage. This part of the seminar was the second stage of the ‘life dignity curriculum’ that our girls are benefitting from during the last three years of senior school. The final part of this curriculum will be offered in senior 5.
