The Malta Robotics Olympiad 2018 organised, for the first time ever, a Java programming competition named CODESPRINTmt. The main aim of this JAVAHACKATHON was to test students’ ability to solve problems using Java. The entire SEC syllabus was tested. For this competition, our school was represented by Amy Calleja from Senior IV beta. Being in senior IV Amy learnt and studied the entire SEC syllabus in Java.
Students had to perform several tasks with a fixed amount of time to finish each task. The first task required students to create an ATM, followed by a task where a security system had to be coded for a nuclear power plant. The third task involved creating an app login and the final task was to create a game of Snakes & Ladders.
ICE Malta along with CodesprintMT organised a bootcamp session prior to the competition in order to prepare the students for the competition.
The event took place on Saturday 21st April 2018 from 9am till 3pm. During this time, Amy was given a set of tasks and for each solution she wrote code in Java. Amy was placed 6th out of a total of 21 schools.
